Ashford called the fight for slavery a 'noble cause' once,
when he tried to accomodate cheesy audiences in the south.
As for JC, I am not informed whether UFOs got alien slaves.

I'm not sure if I agree with your assumption that slaves are all that cheap. If you owned a slave, you had to provide them some kind of housing, food, and clothing. With today's cost of labor, most workers doing the tasks that slaves might be used for have two jobs.
I'm not convinced that slavery was cheaper.

Actually, the "Democrats" of that day and up until the 1970's were actually the Republicans of today. The rich white southern landowners that split with the Democratic party in the 1970's over the issue of abortion.
