It is amazing the great number of scripts already under contract that can be used if the movies want to make them.

No, writers will not be shot but the may be ostracized.

Meanwhile directors and actors will have an opening here to pitch projects of their own to get them done and so you may see some new things from them and you may see a lot more remakes of classics that only need recasting.

Writers think too much of themselves especially when you consider they are usually adapting another person's work to fit the film. Need be, it may take longer or be less predictable , but the actors can just adlib, if they are willing to work.

Too be frank, the salaries these people are making in the film industry makes one question what are they striking for....

As a "on spec screenwriter" I don't think it would be wise to "write" when there is a strike that means to get better conditions to all writers. I would call this mostly as "burning your bridges" and it wouldn't be fair to their cause, which I consider my own, even though I am a "wannabe". Writers have been mocked and not taken serious. A Writer is a work of intelect and must be also be recognized as an important profession as any other.
I suggest the wanabes to keep writing but keep their stories locked up until the strike is over.

All writers (whether paid or not) should be united and hope for solution that could mean better conditions to all writers.

It was made clear that anyone who 'writes' during the strike will NEVER become a member of the Guild, thus never working in Hollywood again. Sucks!

They can try but it would not be good for them. They will never work in Hollywood again after the strike.
