It worked in "Gladiators" where one of the actors died in mid filming and was morphed in for the rest of the film.
With a good sound mixing machine a body double and a lot of CGI you can put anyone you want in your movie these days but you might have to pay their estate for creative rights and that could get legally tricky. It is hard to sign a dead person and the audio and video is owned by someone who will want their cut as well.
In short, it may be cost prohibitive....

Actually, in the wee-early 1990s, a Hollywood studio supposedly had computer images of Clint Eastwood made, with his participation, in an experiment to see if they could make movies 'without' him using his images; whenever the technology caught up. I'd say it's caught up now! LOL! I never heard any more about this 'experiment' but I am pretty sure the real Clint Eastwood died just before he made 'A Perfect World'! LMAO! Hey, you just never know ;P

Sure they could digitally clone her into the computer and someone else could do the motion capture animation. But, of course, the voice would be way off.

Sure. But I think it would be morally weird to use someone's image without their permission or if they were dead.
