Your marriage certificate will serve as the official name change document. It really doesn't matter which you change first, drivers license, social security or whatever. Call them up or get online to see the procedure. They may have a form or whatever and they will want a certified copy of your marriage certificate.

Definitely bring your marriage license with you every place. Here in NY, you can't do anything without your SS card first. then it is about a 2 week wait to transfer DMV things. the best way to start is make a list of all bills, banks, savings, post office- don't forget your dump ticket for garbage. At work, change forms and then some. I found out that I'm able to keep track of everything because of the list. I hope this gives you a heads up.

First of all, congratulations!
You can go to the DMV first, because when you change your last name, they update your info on your voter registration as well. Then go to the ss office and change it there. But remember that you need your marriage license to be able to do any of this.

Go to your local government office take your marriage license/certificate for proof of the marriage and then you will have to pay for the documents to be changed to your husbands last name.

First go to SS...have your marriage certificate, birth certificate, and SS card. They'll help you out. You can also do that online and they will send you what you need. Then once you receive your new ss card, you go to everywhere else and let them know of your name change.

This is more for Owen's benefit.
It doesn't cost you anything to have those documents changed especially since you have the marriage certificate with you.
My daughter got married in April and it didn't cost her anything to change her last name to her husband's.
Now if they get divorced, then it may but she'll worry about that if it comes to it.
