Pork spending:
CAGW’s Prime Cuts 2007 publication seeks to provide suggestions to create a more efficient and resourceful government that is looking out for the best interests of the taxpayers. The 750 recommendations provided by CAGW would save the American people $280 billion over the next year and $2 trillion over the next five years.
The 2007 version of Prime Cuts features some long-standing proposals, such as eliminating the White House’s National Youth Anti-drug Media Campaign (saving $512 million over five years), sugar subsidies (saving $800 million over five years), and the Advanced Technology Program (saving $721 million over five years). These programs have been in existence for far too long and continue to soak up money from the taxpayer’s pockets.
New additions to the list this year include eliminating the Historic Whaling and Trading Partners program, which would save $9 million in one year and $45 million over five years, and the Denali Commission, which would save $7 million in one year and $35 million over five years.

Were it not for the war - it would be the cost of our rate of imprisonment of citizens:
""In the past 30 years, the United States has come to rely on imprisonment as its response to all types of crime. Even minor violations of parole or probation often lead to a return to prison. This has created a prison system of unprecedented size in this country.
The US incarcerates the largest number of people in the world.
The incarceration rate in the US is four times the world average.
Some individual US states imprison up to six times as many people as do nations of comparable population.
In the US, African Americans are over six times as likely to be incarcerated as whites; Latinos over twice as likely.
The US imprisons the most women in the world.
Crime rates do not account for incarceration rates.
Local and state facilities across the country are overcrowded, exacerbate prisoner health problems, risk the safety of both staff and prisoners, are in poor repair, and strain taxpayers.
The nationwide bill for incarceration is conservatively estimated at $42 billion annually
(see AOUSC, May, 2004). Many prison and jail systems have been sued for failure to meet minimum requirements for health and safety.

1. This war.
2. the 58% of the discretionary budget that goes to the military industrial corporate complex. Included in this is the stupid and expensive missile defence system (aka "StarWars").
3. Corporate entitlements, welfare and subsidies to oil industry giants, big pharmaceuticals and big agribusiness.
4. Also, entitlements to the rich in the form of larger tax cuts percentage wise that is much more in percentage than what the middle class gets.
5. War on Drugs
6. No Child Left behind

Entitlements - if you count them as 'spending.'
Among discretionary spending, earmarks and porkbarrel legislation are the most egregious wastes of taxpayer money.
The infamous inefficiency of the military, in general, also makes any military spending 'wasteful,' no matter how vital it might be. People often say we have the world's greatest military - in fact, we have, by far, the world's most /expensive/ military.
