I am a 16 year old girl and next year I plan to try out for my high school football team. The only reason I haven't already tried out is because I felt that, realistically, I was too small (I use to be 128 lbs). Over the last 6 months, however, I have put on nearly 15 lbs and am steadily putting on weight as I work out more and more. I now have about 9 or 10 months to put on as much weight as I can. I've come across a lot of workouts to build muscle, but these obviously aren't written with women in mind. I am seeing results with them, but I also play softball and row for my school's crew team, both of which I plan to pursue in college. Softball and football are both explosive, sprinting sports, but crew is mostly cardio and endurance, and I am afraid that I am going to start losing weight once the crew season starts. How can I continue to put on weight throughout the long crew season? I plan to become a WR or RB.

Well eat, and get some protein mixes, work out and build some muscle for the weight, just dont put on a lot of fat because its unhealthy for your body, work out and just gain some muscle, try and work out as much as possible.

Okay, now for a 'real' answer. If you want to become a WR or a DB, putting on too much weight could be a bad thing. I'd recommend checking out this work-out training book called the 52 week complete football training guide. It'll help you get faster and stronger.

Good luck!!

First of all, you don't have to put on weight to play football. You need to have great core strength, speed, and agility. Have you seen Wes Welker on the Patriots....He's a tiny guy, yet one of the leading recievers. I know women bigger than him. Which leads me to my next statement. There are multple womens football leagues (nfl rules) in this country. The NWFA, IWFL, and the WPFL. The women in these leagues are all different sizes, shapes, and weights. Football doesn't discriminate. Check out some of the websites.
SO stop trying to put on weight....just get in shape!

No, unless you plan on being a kicker. I'm not trying to dis you or anything, but if you're unwilling to get buff then there's no way in hell you'll be able to play high school football.

My advise, don't do it. Reason? You don't even know that you're going to make the team in the first place and even if you do, you're not going to be playing college or in the NFL. You'll just be someone in a few years who will be trying to lose all that weight. Don't just think short-range, you have to think long-range.

You cna put on weight and counter one of women's biggest shortcomings physically compare to men.

You need upper body strength. So I would reccomend building pec strength, and arm strength, otherwise you wont' be able to compete in that department.

Save yourself the time and trouble. The chances of you making a high school football are slim to none. Unless of course your high school team is pretty awful to begin with. Even if you could get up to 180 lbs you still would not have the physical strength to compete nor would you have the experience from playing football in the past. Stick with your softball and rowing.

Putting on weight comes so easy to a female, just sit in the living room munching on anything while watching the soap operas or the reality shows

Well aside from the obvious things I am under the impression if you take birth control pills they make you gain weight.
