Bought a 8600 GT yesterday. Came with two "connectors"...
One is mandatory, because my card has the (dvi) I believe.
Here is a picture of a similar card:

My LCD Monitor can accept the traditional connector or the dvi one.

My question: Whats the difference? Should I hook up the DVI connector to the monitor too, or just leave it as is?

Thanks in advance!

VGA and DVI

DVI is digital input, you will get a better, crisper picture if you use DVI instead of the VGA.

If you don't have the cable for the DVI and you don't want to pay for one, then don't worry. For some monitors it's not a big difference.
But if you do have the cable or want the better picture, definitely go with the DVI cables.

well, yes, ythe DVI conector would give you a better more crisp shadow free image, the bat thing is... to take the full advantage of a dvi connector, your monitor should have a DVI connector too. if your monitor have a usual VGA connector and you'd have to use a DVI-VGA adapter, what you are doing is converting digital to analog, therefore, there is no difference to which port you connect your monitor.

I perssonally use both ports, with the adapter, I use two monitors, and that makes my computer very useful at the time to do more than one task at the time, like, playing music while surfig the net, or like to see full size pictures while looking at thumbnail catalogs, or even to see two websites at the same time.

in few words, if you have only one monitor and you have the dvi cable, use that.no need to connect the vga

The DVI connector is typically a better quality image than the standard connector. If any, go with the DVI. It has many more pins or connections, allowing for faster data flow, giving you better quality on your screen.

Hope I helped. =)

Only connect one cable to a monitor.

DVI-D will normally give a better picture than a VGA+adapter, or even a DVI-A to VGA cable.
