In earlier days, slavery was a common thing among all races, i.e. given a chance, almost anyone that could make another into a slave would. As humanity progressed, many saw this as being wrong and that idea spread, now many civilized countries are aware of human rights and are concerned with them.
I'm not sure that "taking advantage" of any race is going on now, at least not in more developed countries. Was there something specific you were referring to?

The Vikings were white, they took slaves, white or black so don't see skin color as the big deal.

skin color was secondary...it was the colonizers taking advantage of the colonized.
