I believe that in recent years, it was Texas and George (I don't care if they are innocent) Walker Bush.

Since 1976 Texas has put 405 people to death, four times the number of the next highest state, Virginia with 98. So far this year, the number is at 26. 2006 the number is 24. For the past two years that puts Texas at 50 executions, compared to the next highest state, Oklahoma at 7.
If we're looking at population, Oklahoma executes more people per capita than does Texas. But Texas comes in second, similar to Delaware's percentage of executions by population.

Bush signed 131 in Texas. Texas has the record for most signed in the US but does not specify that Bush signed the most. The total number in Texas since 1930 is 676. Since 1976 is 379. I find it very likely that bush has the record for the US since 1930. I doubt if he holds the record for our entire history. I can find no source that directly confirms who signed the most.
Sorry

I'm not sure about a governor but at least I know about a Judge in Pennsilvania ===Judge Albert Sabo. Notorious for signing the most death warrants ever, Sabo's track record (against African-Americans especially) has made him known as the "hanging judge." He is actually serving as the judge of a case regarding his own bias!

Governors don't get involved in those unless they're signing a pardon. Yes, the most people were executed during the governorship of George W. Bush in Texas, but he didn't have to sign anything- that came from the judicial branch, and the juries of those cases.

Bush in Texas, which would prove he can be a good leader when he wants to be. Of course I actually believe in evil people being brought to justice,so perhaps I'm biased. My only problem with the Death Penalty is that it isn't used enough,or quickly enough when given, not even close.
What I find most amazing is that the same type of people who will hold a candle light vigil for some murderer, are often times the same people who think it's ok to give someone the death penalty for forming in the wrong womb.
