I don't need it to do images or anything else. Just words.

Preferably on the cheap.

They all do words. A word is just an image where you choose the font and the size. This one's only $429 but then you would probably want the hyperfont software too.

I've got a Janome Machine, the MC11000. It does wonderful words, as well as everything else. A friend has a Bernina, an Artista, I think it is. She can only stitch out big, wide fonts. Narrow little ones wad up and look awful. She's taken the machine in many times to try and fix this, but no luck, seems to be somewhat inherent in the machine.

The older Memory Craft machines do just as well, and prices are a bit more reasonable.

I've had Janome machines for years and only every take them in for yearly checkups. I've never had one break or act up like the Husqvarna Designer SE seems prone to. Another friend has had horrible problems with that machine.

All embroidery machines can do words, the quality of the stitched design depends on the digitzer and how they created the design. I would join a few embroidery groups and look at their designs first to see which ones may be able to assist you best. Also, embroidery machines usually come equipped with software to create lettering as well. A Brother or Janome comes to mind as a specifically well made machine to fit your needs.
