aggregate goals means the total goals count from teams that play each other twice, home & away. this is usually used in the knock-out stage of a competition, such as UEFA Champions' League or UEFA Cup. the team that score the most goals over two matches will progress to the next phase.

for example, here's the result of the 2005-2006 UEFA Champions' League knock-out stage:

1st match - Chelsea 1-2 FC Barcelona
2nd match - FC Barcelona 1-1 Chelsea

the above results shows FC Barcelona have scored 3 goals & Chelsea scored 2 goals in total over two matches between them. so FC Barcelona won 3-2 on aggregate & progress to the quarter-finals of the 2005-2006 UEFA Champions' League as FC Barcelona scored more goals than Chelsea.

here is another example from the 2005-2006 UEFA Champions' League knock-out stage:

1st match - Glasgow Rangers 2-2 Villareal SC
2nd match - Villareal SC 1-1 Glasgow Rangers

from the above, both teams has scored 3 goals over two matches but in some competitions, like the UEFA Champions' League, the away goal rules will be used to decide the outcome. away goal means any goal scored by the away team is consider as double. so, Villareal SC scored 2 away goals while Glasgow Rangers scored only 1 goal & Villareal SC progress on away goals rule.
