We only have one life... and we (some of us) have to spend it doing something we hate? All my life I've hated school... I hate learning mathematics; I hate learning most parts of science; I can't remember history facts. Why should I care if I get a bad grade on a test? It's not the end of the world. And it won't determine my future. And I don't want my mother yelling at me about it and reminding me how well my older sister is doing. I know I want to be a Cultural Anthropologist and, poor grades or not, I'll be one and no one can stop me. I will do what I want to do - but I won't waste my time trying to get perfect grades in school. It's not for me - it's not my way of getting there and I wish others could understand that I won't conform to this method.

I actually do quite well in school. I just don't want people to expect me to be perfect - I'm not trying to be. I'm just getting by... education is not a journey for me. It's a hurdle I have to get past.

Hate it or not you listened long enough to post this question without mistakes in spelling and grammar. You may not think so at the time but your schooling and how well you preformed will matter when you are in the job market. Unless you plan on being a pizza delivery person for life.

I've had the luxury of traveling the world without an education, and it proved to be a lot of fun and parties. But if i wanted to help people, I decided that I could do better for myself and the people I was meeting if had learned more to understand the way cultures work. Getting my B.A. in anthropology was one of the best things I could've done, now I'm halfway through my masters program and its so challenging, I wish I had read so much more during my under-grad. God knows if I'll make it though a ph.d program. I need math for stats, and I've always hated it but its true. I don't get perfect grades, (as a result, I go to a less than desirable school) but I make sure what I learn is helpful to me and my goals in life. But in the end, Its still really hard to get a job even with a degree in any of the social sciences.

So you don't end up not being able to get a job as a "cultural anthropologist" and end up mooching off the system (read: the rest of us).
Edit: FYI, cultural anthropology is a major in a 4-year university degree, which means you need a high school diploma or GED equivalant to get in, and you need to have a basic understanding of core subjects to pass them before you can even take advanced courses in cultural anthropology.
The career site below states that the median annual salary for a cultural anthropologist is $43,890, and it requires a doctorate degree, or 8 years of post high school education. On the plus side, employment opportunities are good, so if you manage to make it through the rest of high school, undergrad, graduate school, and a doctorate program, you'll have a job lined up... Although, most likely, you will be working through a university as a professor and will be involved with education until you retire.

It's important because it helps to pick out the strong from the weak. If you have to choose someone to work for you, you'd choose the people with high recommendations, right? And I agree that a bad test isn't the end of the world but the little things add up to the big things. But if you just wanna slack and enjoy whatever you do, go ahead. But please consider your future. If you were doing well you wouldn't be asking this question now, would you?

Your education is what gets you places.
I went to Nicaragua and built a school down there. they can't do anything with their lives because once they become of age, they have to do manual labor for their village.
Education should be cherished. It's the one thing people can never take away from you.

You think it isn't important? Education don't only makes you learn, but also tells you how to live happily and heavenly.
