Laney can be used as a nickname for many names that are popular right now, including some really lovely classics like Madeleine and Helena.
As an independent name, it's gone from #703 in 2000 to #483 in 2006 - so yes, it's on the rise.
But it's still far from being too popular. She'll probably meet other Laneys, but it isn't Emma or Isabella.
I'm not crazy about Laney as a given name - IMHO, it's a bit flimsy. But if you were using it as a nickname for Helena Belle, it would be fabulous.

According to the Social Security Administration in 2006, the name ranked:
725 Lainey
412 Lana
483 Laney
Personally, it does not seem to be that popular. And Laney Belle is cute but I would pick another name with middle name Belle.
Leilani Belle is cute!

I've never met anyone with the name "Laney" before. So, in my opinion this name is not too popular because I have never even heard it! It sounds more like a nickname than a name, but if it makes you happy, go for it!

It's popular as a nickname. As a given name I don't think it's all that common. I prefer it as a nickname for Elena/Elaina, Melanie, Delaney. I don't care for the name Laney Belle at all, sorry.
