Since the effects of shopping there is a drain on the local economy?
Just wondering....

I don't know but I loathe Wal-mart. It's always dirty and the checkout lines are a mile long. They import cheap Chinese crap and are responsible for rolling that trend out to the rest of the box stores. Meanwhile, people grip about lead paint and tires that fall apart while they are driving-yet continue to shop there.

Neither one is shameful IF you have no other alternative.

Food stamps - and Wal-Mart - are the last resort for those who are truly in poverty.

Those who can avoid either one, and continue to use them (either food stamps or Wal-Mart) should be ashamed. But not those genuinely in need.

I don't know if either one is considered shameful. The majority of those using food stamps do have a genuine need for them and they usually spend them at Wal-Mart due to its dominant presense and convenience of "one-stop" shopping (and, in increasingly more cases, the ONLY presense).

However, I would say WORKING for Wal-Mart would be considered more shameful. You get lousy pay with few or no benefits, forcing you to actually buy your basic goods and necessitites from them, essentially making you a slave.

Shame on you. People using food stamps are for the most part folks who need them. As for Wal-Marts they are going to take over the world with the help of China. Should we use them? I guess it depends on just how much money you have and just how much you want to spend. I live in Brooklyn, N Y and have no Wal Marts near me but I have been in the store. From what I am hearing they are very cold blooded and have no problem destroying any body in there way. I guess as long as people buy from them they will sell.

It's a drain on the local economy? So - all those people employed by Wal-Mart aren't worth supporting?

My sis-in-law works for Wal-Mart, and LOVES it. She does not have a HS diploma, but she's smart, and she has earned several promotions in the few years she's worked for them. Yeah, you're right - a place that allows someone with no education to climb up the ladder and earn more money - those evil bastards! Who in the hell do they think they are?!? She even has BENEFITS. GASP! The nerve of that place!

Edit - LMAO at the thumbs-down. As to the moron who claims it's more shameful to work for Wal-Mart...yeah, you are SO right. They should just let the taxpayers support them instead of actually trying to improve their lives.

Amazing.

No one is REQUIRED to shop anywhere in particular. So if someone choses to shot Wally world so be it. If not, that is their choice. I see no shame either way. I don't shop wally world myself because stuff I have gotten from there has been junk except for some food items. Other people may find their stuff acceptable but we have a free market economy and so people shop where they want.

No, what is shameful is that we are being reduced to using food stamps while shopping at wal-mart. They just keep raising the cost of living and not raising the wages to meet that cost. What? were you expecting a better result? This is what happens when we allow big business and big government to ru(i)n our lives and control our daily decisions. The day we stop being apathetic and complacent about it is the day we have the possibility of drawing better results.

Since Wal-Mart employees in many communities are entitled to food stamps - I say shopping at Wal-Mart IS using food stamps, since they keep the help from fainting of hunger.

No, but I've made a bigger commitment to shop local for food and clothes/housewares. I may have to pay an extra 10 dollars here or there, but I'd rather keep the money into the local economy.

Wal Mart is the only store in town, so your question is moot.
