A The Allied Powers

2007-11-05 06:26:26 · answer #1 · answered by psyop6 6 · 2 1

Allied Powers, joined later by the United States.

Prior to The First World War they were known as the Triple Entente' or Triple Alliance .This alliance made The Kaiser feel that Germany was surrounded by enemies.

That is why Germany was so quick to react when Russia began to mobilise it's troops against Germany's ally Austro-Hungary.

Wishing to avoid a two front war on the frontiers of France and Russia,Germany attempted to steamroll over France through neutral Belgium hoping to quickly capture Paris and knock France out of the fight before Russia and Britain could fully mobilise. This first operation "The Schleiffen Plan" failed to achieve it's goals due to it's having been altered from General Von Schleiffen's original plan and also unexpected heavy resistance from Belgium,France, and Great Britain who consequently mobilsed faster than Germany thought possible.

The three countries also allied in WWII and were again joined by the United States, though in both instances U.S. invovlement would not come until later in the war.

Allied powers in World War I

2007-11-05 05:36:33 · answer #3 · answered by Dave aka Spider Monkey 7 · 1 1

In both World War I and World War II those countries were allied powers.

However John G is correct at the start of the World War II, Fascist Italy did in fact oppose the allies until 1943 when they surrendered by signing what is known as the 'Italian Armistice'.

Anyway, the answer is A.

Sorry!!

Italy was never an Allied Power. They invaded Abbysinia pre WW2 to practice their war skills and Hitler's Facsist Brown Shirts copied Mussolini's original Facsist Black Shirts. Italy and Germany signed a pact known as the bi-Axis. These two countries became a tri-Axis with Japan in 1942.

Italian troops were used in the North African campaign mainly and as Germany was gradually being defeated they surrendered by the thousands to anyone who would have them, a long time before Italy capitulated in 1943.

My father was a Prisoner of War in Italy (captured by the Germans and handed over to the Italians) and he certainly didn't consider them to be our Allies!!

However, not all the Italians were for Mussolini, there was a very large Resistance group throughout Italy which was of great benefit to the Allies (GB and US + Colonial troops that landed in Sicily for the long trek north.

They only became our official allies by default - and that default was their capitulation in 1943.

Complicated question. Do you mean World War 1 or World War 2. It makes a difference as GB was oposed to Italy in WW2 as Italy sided with Nazi Germany before capitulating later in the conflict.
