To argue this point, you need to really believe in market forces.

The general argument is that workers will have a choice about where they work. The best workers will be rewarded with the highest paying jobs, leaving the poor-quality workers in the lowest paying ones. Competition is ensured in that workers compete to get the best jobs, and employers compete with each other to attract the best workers.

This argument tends to work fairly well in regards to professional jobs (for instance, the best doctors will be paid the best in their industry), but not so well in unskilled positions (there's no real incentive for companies to pay well to attract the best cash operators as they can easily replace staff with other unskilled employees).

So, if you believe in a self-regulating market, the minimum wage just sets incomes at arbitrary levels. If, on the other hand, you believe in government regulation, the minimum wage protects the most vulnerable workers.

The minimum wage stops the owners of businesses making as much profit as they can and offers a small degree of protection to the poor. If you believe that the minority of people (rich elites) should be able to do what they like to the poor - as the US does - then the minimum wage is a barrier to that. Of course, you could always use Mexicans if they did apply a minimum wage in the US.

If you just want an argument you can say that according to Darwin/ evolution nature works on survival of the fittest and the weak have no right to have any rights because the natural order says they must die - if you do not have the skills to survive then you don't deserve to. Of course, this argument is fatally flawed - someone can say what about a rich, powerful man who has a stupid child, what natural right does that child have etc. What if it's a spastic? Should he kill it?

In fact, if you want a good argument for no minimum wage how about saying it's a good way of exterminating the poor? Google Malthus for more info.

Increase in base wages = increase in cost of goods and services = devaluation of the dollar = inflation. The economy does well under free market rules, but one the government begins price fixing, the most common example being minimum wage, free market economy rules no longer apply, and inflation occurs.

You also have to keep in mind that when minimum wage goes up, everybody else wages have to go up, too. If a person is making more than minimum wage, but then minimum wage is increased to the amount they are making, they will expect to be paid more. Through that cycle, everybody makes more money, and the dollar is worth less.

Well, everytime the minimum wage goes up, the places that employ minimum wage workers have to raise their prices to compensate. It just creates an endless cycle of hikes in the cost of goods.

Minimum wage jobs are for people who need or want extra cash, people who are single and just entering the job market, they are not designed so that you can raise a family of two, three, or four.

If you want a family, do the responsible thing, get a decent job so you can afford it.

the higher the minimum wage the more jobs that have been created, sounds odd but it is true

its the additional money that the people at the lowest level will always spend every dime that they get paid

people in higher earning brackets save more of thier money and do not stimulate the economy and create as many jobs
