I have worked as a CSR also, and it is true that in many cases the company does not give the CSR authority to fix a problem. I have also worked at jobs where the company allows the CSR to do whatever it takes to make the customer happy (refund, exchange, etc) so they will continue to BE a customer.
If the co. you are trying to get satisfaction from is not cooperating, go to your public library or look through the company's catalogs, invoices, or other papers you may have, find the corporate office address and names, and WRITE to the CEO. Keep copies of your correspondence. Be persistent, they keep blowing you off thinking you will give up eventually. If you don't give up they will give you satisfaction, but you have to be willing to put in the time. If all else fails, report them to the BBB, who will investigate and can in many cases get you what you want.

Come to think of it, I think the last time I heard the words "customer service representative" was probably the last time I called my bank....and they put me on hold for ages while their automated answering service kept telling me that a "customer service representative" would be with me shortly....or something like that. Very annoying!

No I do not get mad at them. I have worked in that type of job. It is very difficult for them as well dealing all sorts of people all day and having to deal with monitors, talk time stats for there job and a lot of things corporate puts on them. They wish as well as you they could help but a lot of times the company's put to many restraints on them. Then the customer gets mad at them and they have people yelling at them all day for something that can't fix because there employer wont let them. They have a very tough job and I will never yell at them because I have been in there shoes.

Yes. It happens a lot. I think there must be a lot of Customer Service Reps that are not earning their keep.

The best is when they keep switching you around until you 'accidentally' get hung up on. That really turns me on. I love it.
