Physically, I get slower with age. Mentally I am wiser and get into much less trouble. Emotionally I am much more stable.

It is very gradual. You don't even know its happening until you wake up one morning, look in the mirror and wonder who that person is. lol
Seriously, it is very gradual. When you tend to slow down and want to get out of the fast lane, to me, is the beginning. Other signs are when you may cringe at changes happening too fast, noticing that your hearing is not as good as it once was, and not being able to see as well. But I still feel pretty young because I believe it is who you are as a person that makes you "old." There is nothing you can do about the physical aging process, unless you go under the knife like Joan Rivers. And that is just too drastic for me. To end it, I am having a pretty good journey with more expectations to follow when I pass over. <><

As I get older, I realize time is getting shorter to do all the things I have wanted to do.I realize I should have started saving earlier for my retirement. As I get older, I realize cleaning my house is not a priority like it used to be. I have slowed down to smell the flowers. And, I have gone back to school to learn a few things that I had always wanted to learn...like Spanish. And, I always thought I would have an antique business when I retire, but I know you cannot count on tomorrow when you get older. So, I rented a booth at an antique mall, and I am downsizing my lifetime of collecting. And, as I have gotten older, I realize I would rather dress for comfort and not worry what someone else might say about me.I feel I have paid my "dues" and I entitled to wear whatever I please. Yes, getting older does mean more aches and pains, and we may not be able to move as fast as we once did, but we still know where we are going.I may be old, but I will never grow up.

Your priorities change a lot and you get a sense of what really is important to think about...not the fad of the day. As life goes on, you see how fads and celebs come and go, it's the constants and relationships you've aquired that really having meaning and give you direction. A lot of earlier issues you might have had go away or just remain as a part of who you are. You really do get wiser after having all the life experiences and thoughts over many years. Your body does wear out depending on how well you've kept it up...some are better, some are worse. You think more about what future plans you need to make to secure a comfortable retirement and maybe fulfill life-long dreams as well as maintain a healthy body to do so and enjoy them.

Oh Boy,,,,,,,What is it like? It's like that ice cream cone with 2 scoops, on a warm day. The cone is no longer too big to hold on to, (as it was when I was a child), yet the gooey sticky melting mess now takes on a whole different meaning in my so-called "mature" mind. I once only worried about losing my tasty treat on the sidewalk...now I worry about the waste of money it cost to buy the cone, which I get in a cup & eat with a spoon! Then there's all that fat content & other health concerns that just make me want to scream! So I eat it fast & try not to think about it! Guilt comes in the night, after I fall into a deep sleep. That's when I really do my traveling!

Well for me aging has become a process that I truly enjoy. I have time to stop and look at the world around me, I can enjoy the beauty and the small things I was in too much of a rush to enjoy earlier. The world has become so much bigger, there is so much to do and no rush to do any of it at one time.
I appreciate the ones that I love and that love me so much more. I know who my friends are and I love and appreciate them for being just who they are and not what the world expects them to be.
We are now allowed to be individuals with our own ways and tastes,we do not have to conform to what others think.
In short I would say that Life just gets better!
Oh yes I have the usual aches and pains but I can even deal with that most days.

I am finding myself looking at obituaries in the newspapers of ages younger then me. I wake up wonder what hurts today. When I get a pain in my chest, ask myself if this is it. I tell stories of things that happened in the past, to people that were not even born yet. I worry about about what will last longer my life or my retirement. I look back of any differences that I made that are using today. I think about my childhood & growing more often then I ever did. I am looking at furture years that people will see and I won't. Wonder what will become of me when I am gone.

I think you have gotten some very good answers! Showing the down side, (like the great answer from "Heart") As well as the positive stuff (like "Lady G") What a fortunate lady she is to have acquired all her self insights. (Really, I mean that) However I'm afraid it don't always happen just that way. Some of us just get older and are still wondering where (if anywhere) we are going. Good question, and good luck.

when you pull up to a stop light, you realize that all of the cars you passed, are there at the stop light with you.
and that is when you realize that life is not a race, it is a journey.
you might not get there as fast as someone else, but you do get there.
you learn that if you stop and enjoy the view once in a while, you will still get things done, and you have enjoyed your life a little more.
you learn that saying "I love you" needs to be said more often, and that getting upset, only affects you.
you learn to enjoy the rain, as well as the sunshine.
and the people in your life are more important, than the things in your life.

It's different with everyone. I had an aunt who lived to the ripe old age of 96 and she never let any moss grow under her feet. She had a happy spirit and loved to walk to her neighborhood store daily. Her diet was great -- lots of vegetables and fruits. She was born with energy and had a great outlook on life.
A lot of it has to do with what God gives you so treat it well because you don't get that second chance.

Now I know I'm not a senior citizen..but I think this question is pretty standard. Just think back when you were 5 years old...and compare the difference between now and then. For me, I would have to say that I still feel the same now as each year progress...
