And let's be realistic, too :)

Consider some bands of your favorite rock genre (with similar chemistry) that are actually touring right now (or are planning to tour), and consider which ones you would like to open the show, and which two you'd pick as the headliners :)

Good picks Sookie! :) And I don't think the Pixies have quite yet thrown in the towel on touring together (I hope not)

Don't you just wish that you could ask the R&P fairy who's the idiot little troll giving everyone thumbs down in your questions?

What'dya know! I also caught the Lords of Acid and My Life With The Thrill Kill Cult tour back in 1995. And it was a summer tour not to be forgotten.

12 Days - Siouxsie circa Kaleidoscope era and the Postal Service, do you sense the polarity in these two? :) But something tells me I'd attend anyway because I love these two acts.

Prof. I'd love to catch the Shins live, I wouldn't even care who opened up

At this moment, well, and I'm unaware of tour plans, but ...
Vampire Weekend
Maps of Norway
Silversun Pickups

or

Postal Service
New Young Pony Club
Brazilian Girls

order is unimportant really ... in a nice, preferably vintage, club setting with decent craft beers available

****

if we were talking perhaps in an arts festival setting, it would be nice to see maybe Sonic Youth, Glenn Branca, William Hooker, Steve Reich, Roger Miller, Elliott Sharp doing some avant garde ensemble

or Aphex Twin with Phillip Glass, or maybe Glass scoring the Qatsi triology in IMAX format with live orchestra, preferably with a wine bar and intermissions

Yeah I would, no question You hate Nickelback and Slipknot more than New Kids On The Block, G-Unit or The Jonas Brothers?? Edit: @This Is Spinal Tap Fan...They Did. I think. @Nightlife Commando: Oh just admit you hate Nickelback. How can you not? And how can they be worse than the Jonas Brothers? I once had to live through an hour of Girlicious (some Pussycat Dolls spinoff) at a Backstreet Boys concert. As if that wasn't bad enough...I had to watch some slutty no-talent girl band yodel for an hour.

I would have put in the Pixies, but only in their prime - the last show wasn't all that.

So,
They Might Be Giants opening (cleanse the palate, so to speak)
Destinaton:Earth! headlining, in full costume circa 1998 (version B, armor and lights, not the legoesque or the garage days version)
The Deep Eynde closing - by that time, I'm too tired to do anything but jump in place.
My alternate would be if the Deep Eynde isn't touring anymore - and I would substitute either Man or Astroman? or the Blue Man Group.

Did I mention that I'm not much for headlining bands in large venues?

Bad Religon
Social Distortion
Pennywise
(and throw in Rise Against as the opener)
or
Shadows Fall
Killswitch Engage
As I Lay Dying

Opening - The Starting Line
1st Headliner - Dashboard Confessional
2nd Headliner - Brand New

(and if you can, get 30 Seconds To Mars to play a set before TSL)

Since my two favorite bands have already performed together (Kiss, Aerosmith); and since most of my other favortes are either coming off a tour or are in hiatus; I'm going to go with something on a smaller scale... maybe a few thousand people at the most.

Tyketto (with a mini solo set from Danny Vaughn)
Night Ranger
Jeff Scott Soto

or...

Hardcore Superstar
Gemini Five
Crashdiet

NP: "Out With a Bang" - Faster Pussycat

Well, of ones currently, recently, or sometime soon to be touring....

Siouxsie (solo), Bauhaus, and the Cure.

I'd let them work out the order amongst themselves :)

Seen several mentions of the TKK/Lords of Acid double bill. Could kick myself for missing that one in Pittsburgh in '94 or '95. . Imagine a triple bill with KMFDM.... TKK has a fairly new album and so does KMFDM... and so does Ministry... imagine the possibilities...

Opeth, Dark Tranquility, In Flames would be awesome together, but In Flames would have to sing some of their old songs. I've been to two of their concerts, and I have yet to hear Moonshield live.

More extreme: Immortal, Emperor, and Lord Belial

I don't think these bands are touring in the moment, though.

As far as making a bill that I could see this bill actually rolling through town I would have to pick:

Stephen Malkmus
Built To Spill
The Shins

Hi Mach Pen. If you ever get the chance you should. They put on a great show. I've seen them twice and even when the sound was pretty off for about half the set it was still a really good time.

lovnrckets - I actually saw Lords of Acid open for My Life with the TKK...mid 90's but it was an amazing show!

I'm thinking start with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, move onto Blonde Redhead in the middle, and the closing act...David Bowie! Wow, I think I'm salivating a little.
