The directions say not to bleach, and our town does not have a dry cleaner. Any suggestions?

You don't really have to believe directions..You can put a little bleach in the water first then the downs and you can either put it in the sun which would make it real white or you can put it in the drier on delicate

A little chlorine bleach and a double rinxe should be OK if you have a cotton comforter.

Best solution is to get a duvet cover.....it can be any color you want, is easy to wash (and bleach, if it is white), and it protects the down comforter from stains and dirt.

Personally, I bleached mine anyway. Wash it on delicate and hang it to dry. The only reason they don't want you to wash it is because the feathers get wet and stick together. If you don't want to tempt it find the nearest dry cleaner not in your town and take a venture out to get it cleaned.

You can buy the home dry cleaning kit. They have them in the drugstores or try online.
