I believe Hume himself claimed that inductive reasoning and the constant conjunction of events was responsible. We might not see the transfer of causal power, but we do see various events in constant succession and in particular orders. Therefore we come to associate them with each other. I don't see the transfer of power between two billiard balls, but whenever I go to shoot some pool one will inevitably move the other upon impact. I can't see the actual transfer of kinetic energy, I can't directly percieve the causal relation, but I know that every time I do it the same result is arrived at. For now.....

It is the case of "If this; then that." We see things as children and do not know the causes. So we ask. The answers we get are often just common sensical. Other times they are borne out by experience. IF you stub your toe; THEN you may break it.
If you study, then you may get an A.
If the sun has risen every day, then it will rise tomorrow.
These are the processes of deduction and induction.

Human beings are hardwired to make meaning out of the events and circumstances the mind experiences. It's the greatest strength humans beings possess, and and at the same time it's our greatest weakness.

I think it is related to why we think time is a real and linear process. We have to make sense of things, order them in a way that makes our lives "easier". But when our minds rest during sleep, time, cause and effect, sensibility, all go out the window. That shows the instability of the human mind.

OK what is really weird is the mind does know at times what will come , i had a dream when i was six months pregnant with my son that i had baby angels flying all around me and i was dressed in black i was at a grave and the first to place dirt in it . i dismissed this dream who wants to dream stuff like that , than three months and three weeks after my son was born he died of SIDS , explain that . so yes i do believe something for tells us things that are to come .

Because people don't like uncertainty. The brain is more likely to accept the cause you give it then to have no answer at all.
