I was taught a rhyme in school
"I before E except after C"
and this often causes me to spell such words wrong, perhaps this applies to others?

Most people know that 'i' before 'e' except after 'c' is the usual spelling rule - it's unfortunate that weird is an exception to the rule!

EVERY SINGLE time i use the word wierd, I have to spell check it. It's just a weird word for it's wierd spelling. In fact, i find it to be the weirdest wierd word there is.

Its a weird word after all - I have to force myself not to spell it wired. Used to use that word a lot in my previous job.

I know this 'i' before 'e' excepth after 'c'
but I seem to remember that in "First
Aid to English" (a book we used at
primary school), it used to add the
caveat "unless it sounds like 'ee'".
Another exception is "weir", same again it
sounds like 'ee'.

It's because according to the rule (i before e except after c) would spell it wrong.

I often misspell it, too, but I also always use spell check to fix it!
