Does anyone know how an Etch-a-sketch work?

1. It is NOT sand, but a powdered, plastic material that is sensitive to static cling. No magnetism involved. It is the same static cling that makes a balloon stick to your hair, when you rub it against your head.

2. By shaking the toy, with the screen side down, static cling is built up, allowing the powder to stick to the underside of the screen.

3. The control knobs move a plastic stylus, using a system of gears, pullies and string to pull the stylus left, right, up and down. As the stylus moves, it scrapes the powder off the string.

The inside is filled with sand. When you shake it the sand coats the inside of the screen. There is a needle type thing inside and when you turn the knobs it goes over the sand coated screen and removes the sand from where you make the needle go. Then you shake it again and the sand coats the screen again.

Believe it or not, my dad sat there with mine when I was little, and he sat there for hours turning the knobs back and forth until he removed the sand from the entire screen, just so we could see how it worked inside

there is 2 buttons to sketch with then if you don't like the picture shake it and it will erase..................

u shake it to erase it....well thats all i kniow ive never used one
