It's a personal decision.

Will the job with more money pay for the insurance and retirement planning? If so, then that job is better.

The job that is the best is one he likes that does not cause excuses for arguing.

The job with insurance, I'm assuming it's health insurance, and the retirement is the better way to go. Otherwise you will have to get your own health insurance and a way to save up for retirement. If his current job has a 401k plan or something simliar it will really pay off when it comes time to retire.
But if you guys are truly struggling, having a hard time paying bills and putting food on the table, then, he should've stuck with his other job and looked for a job that would support his family plus have all the benefits.

I'd think the job with benefits was better... maybe you could look for a better job, or a job in general if you don't have one... maybe work from home?

You can sell things on ebay -- i'm an artist, and sell art on ebay -- i do pretty well to supplement my income.

A retirement plan is very critical in this day and age... and so is health insurance. Think of the alternative to having NO health insurance -- If you had to go to the doctor or hospital, you'd have a huge bill to pay off....

that's my best advice...

A better paying job might off benefits and insurance too. It also seems possible that he could get pay raises and promotions for the job he now has. Job history is important, employers look at job history and want to know an employee will stick with them and not skip out for a better job. An employee is an investment in a company. Money is a big cause of frustration and difficult to work out problems.

it all depends if your thinking long term or short term. Everyone knows that we arent getting any younger and that 2 in every 3 americans dont have a retirement plan. However, if your strugeling with money know, in case of an emergency it will have terrible consequence for you financialy. If he looks for another job that pays better, he will have to save and pay insurance to support a financial crissis out of his own pocket.

Health insurance coverage but less pay is better than NO Health insurance and more pay. Insurance coverage is so expensive, if it is provided by the employer that is great. Most coverages through employers are reasonable and it is worth it if there are children involved. It is necessary to have if only one parent is working. Unless the other parent can get a good paying good with benefits then the other can start looking for a better paying job without the benefits. For instance, I am working only PT since I am 5 months pregnant so I don't have insurance coverage for myself, I am covered through my husband's insurance. I am working on obtaining a job within the school district because they have really good insurance coverages, hopefully if I get lucky by then my husband can start looking for a better job and not worry about health insurance since I can cover the whole family through mine. Employment through the school district takes forever, hopefully it's obtainable soon after I have my baby. For now we will stick with my husband's insurance since we wouldn't be able to obtain insurance anywhere else.

Especially if you have kids, the insurance is very important.

Maybe you guys could work on the budget more and find ways to cut money. Arguing about money is bad on the marriage.

Since he has some time, he can probably look around until he finds one with better pay AND insurance/retirement. You could help him, just make sure he is not offended by that. Make sure he knows you are not blaming him. Try looking online together like on monster.com. Wish you the best!!

Benefits and retirement. Just face it if he's not rich already no matter what job he take the money will never be enough plus you ahve kids if he did have a job that paid more money you wouldn't have any to spend because that will go to the insurance company for the medical bills that seems to be haiger than mortgage payments now a days. besides who wants tobe work ing when they are in the senoir years when they can retire with a little nest egg. I go witht he husband.

it depends on your family situation - do you have kids? Do you need the insurance for medical reasons/conditions?

As for the retirement, that can be contributed to either way with or without a retirement plan by the company.

The main thing to look at is the insurance factor - if you need the insurance, you could be looking at hundreds of dollars per month out of your pocket to pay for an insurance plan that will probably not get you the benifits of a plan through an employer.

Well because you have four boys, then the benefits will probably be the best thing to look for. because what if your kids get sick then the doctor bills of to be way more then the pay cut to the point where you guys going to fighting even more. So i think you husband is doing the best thing. And if you guys are arguing over money why you can't go get a part or something just to help out a little
