I am auditioning for the musical at my school and I really need a good audition song. Last year I was a hotbox girl in guys and dolls and the year before that i was Cinderella in Cinderella. I am 13 years old. By the way... I sang In My Own Little Corner for both of the previous auditions.... but i want to do a different audition song this year. I only need about 16 bars of a song. I would really like it to have a belt at some point but if it doesn't thats okay. I am really just looking for the perfect song. Thanks!

to marianne... the reason i didn't post what role i will be auditioning for and which show it is, is because we havn't found out yet from the directors. they just know that they will be doing a musical. the auditions will probably be in the spring so i have plenty of time to learn a new song. thanx again

It would be great if you could post what show and role you are auditioning for. Being as you've used In My Own Little Corner, it's really not a bad audition piece. It shows range and character so if you're comfortable with it and the audition is not far off I would hesitate to change. You're only 13 so the song works. I do understand the want to expand your repetoire however so you should consider adding different character types. If you're looking for something similar you could try Part of Your World. I just caution you to change your song too close to the audition because it really takes time to learn a new piece and do it well.

Consider your range, the show and character you're auditioning for then look at some of these:

Once Upon A December - Anastasia
Let Me Entertain You - Gypsy
My New Philosophy - You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown
It Might As Well Be Spring - State Fair
Astonishing - Little Women
Go Into Your Dance – 42nd Street
How Lovely To Be A Woman – Bye Bye Birdie
I Want It Now – Willy Wonka
When I Get My Name in Lights – The Boy From Oz
Waiting For Life – Once On This Island
Be Kind to Your Parents – Fanny
Let Me Entertain You – Gypsy
Matchmaker – Fiddler on the Roof
Born To Entertain – Ruthless (not sure how old you look)
Lonely Goatherd – Sound of Music
Gee, I'm Glad I'm No One Else But Me - Anne Of Green Gables
The Facts - Anne Of Green Gables
Little Known Facts – You’re A Good man Charlie Brown
Why Am I Me – Shenandoah
The Girl I Mean To Be – Secret Garden

You should also look at these to expand your range. There are many different characters in there. Sweet girls, naive girls, girls in love, brats, strong girls... you name it, they're there.

Good luck,
Marianne

'I'll Know" from guys and dolls would be a great number
(her part from the duet)
