sox arent really interested in ARod. They are however looking to resign Mike Lowell.. Or get Miguel Cabera from the Marlins.... The Angels and Dodgers are looking into ARod - the red sox are really not too interested. Theo knows what it would do to Red Sox nation anyway.
**as for "classless fans" you try living up north and see if you become "weathered" or not, because we have plenty of class we are just "weathered" people. And which players are "cocky" they all say its a TEAM effort - where are the Yankees? ohh thats right - they didn't make it to the ALCS, or the World Series. Eat your words bub.

The Red Sox spent $52 million less than the Yankees this past year. The Texas Rangers had to take on the bulk of A-Rod's contract, not the Yankees. So if they lose him, they only save about $7 million in cap space.
If the Sox sign A-Rod, they probably won't have money left to re-sign Lowell. That would be a mistake IMO, and I don't think Theo is going to do it. But even if they isgned him for what Boras is asking (35 mil per year), that still leaves the Sox about 5 mil shy of the Yankees. And the Sox simply don't make enough money to spend as much as the Yanks on a regular basis. New York is a much bigger city than Boston, and the Yanks have a much bigger following than anyone else in baseball. More fans, and they even have a ton of haters who will flip on the TV to root for whomever is playing the Yankees. $$$$$$$$.
If the Yankees do let go of A-Rod, they will sign at least one top-notch pitcher before the 2009 season. Have you seen the free agent pitching crop for that year? Santana is just the beginning. As for 2008, Rivera will probably stay with the Yanks and demand a pay raise. Remember that 5 million I was talking about earlier? More like 12 mil after Rivera gets signed.
The only way the Sox spend more than the Yanks this year is if they sign A-Rod, keep Lowell, and the Yanks cut Rivera loose. If the Red Sox spend more than the Yankees this year, it will be a fluke and it will change in 2009.

I don't know if they would be the most hated, it is hard to pass the Yankees on that stat. I do know there will be Red Sox fans that hate the team. It is not a good thing to have your fans cheering against one of your own.
I wouldn't pay that much money for some one that has not won ever! I also don't think there are that many teams interested in paying that kind of money. Just another game played by an agent that the owners will buy into.

The two main chants at the red sox rolling rally:
1. RESIGN LOWELL!!
2. DONT SIGN A-ROD!!!
the fans have shown their opinions already, now it is up to the red sox front office.
i dont think arod will be signed by the red sox, and i think that this rumor that the red sox are at the top of arods list is just a ploy by boras to get the red sox interested and in the bidding war to drive up the price of his client. I dont think it will work, and IF he did go to boston, he would play SS anyway, so Lowell would still need to be resigned.

The Sox could desire to make each and every attempt to entice A-Rod out of ny. A-Rod, even with the popularity of being a "team destroyer" is the main suitable participant in baseball. That being pronounced... i think of they could desire to additionally attempt to renounce Lowell, keep in mind A-Rod can play shortstop too! Lugo could desire to actual make the transition to 2nd permitting the Sox to apply Pedroia as commerce bait for a high quality middle Fielder. as much as A-Rod will call for on the open marketplace, the Sox would be fortunate to get him for below 28mil / 300 and sixty 5 days for 5 years, besides the fact that if in on the instant's marketplace and the marketability of a participant like A-Rod, they are going to come out forward. additionally keep in mind the Sox would be dropping some massive contracts this offseason.... Clement (9mil), Schilling (13mil), probable Lowell (9mil), Tavarez (3mil), Timlin (3mil). With the extra youthful palms they have interior the minors they could discover the money for to lose pitching to make room for men like Lopez, Buckholz, Hanson, Delcarmen, and Bowden.

Let me ask this question: If your team won 5 World Series in 7 or 8 years, would you really care if everyone else hated them or not? Do you think Yankee fans care if they are the most hated team or not? With A-Rod, Boston would be in competition for the post season for AT LEAST 10 years. Oh, I know all the "whooooo, he's so greedy he's so bad he's so not white" bashing going on but, please: He's the best player in the game now. On the best team, he would make a 10-12 year dynasty which could well extend beyond that. So, publicly continue with the bashing if you must, but privately hope for Alex Robriguez to put your team in the history books.

duh!
I mean, he may be. That guy is an impact player and needs to find a team with another star so the two of them can just smash all the records:
St. Louis with Pujols or Florida with Cabrera or the Phillies with Howard.
I mean, what kind of guy thinks he should go to a winner because he is that good. Why not make a change to a so-so team? Whatever happened to the good old days!! He'll get the freaking money wherever he goes . . . .

The Red Sox will not be the most hated team in baseball - that "honor" will go to whatever team signs Barry " Buckethead" Bonds. But the Red Sox -or whomever signs A-Rod - won't win the World Series until he leaves them.

Completely. I am a huge sox fan, but I don't think I would be able to watch them if they signed A-Rod. It would be grat to see him unemployed though. After, was it the WS, fans stated chanting "Don't sign a-rod" in the same fashion they chant "Let's go Red Sox." Epstien would be an idiot to sign him. Gosh, Lowell is awesome, not to mention he's actually a TEAM PLAYER!! Plus, A rod is the guy with the MILLION DOLLAR STRIKEOUTS!! RESIGN LOWELL!

Hey slow down there killer...he was supposedly coming to the Red Sox before the '04 season and he ended up in NY...I honestly don't see him signing with the Sox...my guess is he goes West...and the Red Sox are quickly becoming one of the most hated teams...but hate is what jealousy breeds
