I don't know about where you live, but this past weekend was a great time to start putting up outdoor lights. I would rather do so than when the weather was crummy. In addition, Saturday was the last day for that extra hour of sunlight.
Depending on how many lights there are to put up, and when the lights are first turned on, it was not too early to start putting out lights.
Among my peers (those on http://www.PlanetChristmas.com ) last weekend was a great time to start putting out lights because many want to have lights on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is early this year, so there is a huge push to get lights up early.
I myself prefer lights on around December 1. So, the lights I am putting out are the ones that are harder to see.
I am attaching a few links to some decorated sites.
If you are not already listed on some of the decoration tour sites (the first three) please consider adding a picture of your display as we would love to see it.
Have a great Christmas.

My neighbor across the street thinks it is a comp. also. Last year we fixed her butt. We didn't put up as much haha. I always feel that the day after Thanksgiving was a good time to start decorating. The lady across the street and her husband tend to start before. I like the day after.

It is a little early to start putting up Christmas decorations. Why don't you put up Thanksgiving decorations??? This way your house will be decorated for Thanksgiving (and your neighbor's won't) and then when Thanksgiving comes, put up your Christmas decorations. By then everyone will be used to his Christmas decorations but yours will be better because you did Thanksgiving and Christmas!

It always irks me when people decorate before Thanksgiving. If he's the only one on your street decorating this early, then I would wait. If everyone else is, and it's kind of accepted, then go ahead. But don't feel pressured to if you feel it's too early.

LIKE ME... then put them up nearer December at least, or start putting them up now - but dont turn them on... Dont wana look to eager.

Do you want to start?
Thats the real question. If you want to, then do it. If you want to wait, then wait.
I personally let the weather decide for me. About a week before thankgiving I watch the forecasts. Looking for temps that won't freeze my fingers off when hanging lights. :)
