I will be moving there soon and I do not know the area. My husband will be working at the Toyota plant, but I heard the south area is kinda crummy. I am looking for an apartment area. Thanks

I'm just about to move from this dump. Best wishes to you. The southside, despite what some say, is full of drugs and crime, and the San Antonio police aren't exactly models of excellence. Before you lease an apartment, talk to people there, and ask specifically about crimes that have occurred at the apartment. A friend moved into an apt. until her house was ready and afterward she found out that in the past year there had been a murder and a rape there! The place looked decent enough, too. Beware of people pulling the "whiplash" stunt on you to try and sue your insurance for you rear ending them even if they cut you off. Prepare to hear endless conversations about The Spurs and The Riverwalk, neither of which are particularly fascinating. However, every place is what you make it I suppose, but I wasn't able to make much out of SA!

Southside is getting better; however, I live in the northside of San Antonio and the traffic is heavily congested there. Well, crimes can happen anywhere no matter where you live. If this really concerns you, check the crime statistics in your desired area. The best solution is to drive around the neighborhoods to see whether you like it or not. There are a lot of new developments near Toyota Plant. You might want to search for the apartments in Pleasanton areas where it may be convenient for you to go grocery shopping nearby. Good Luck on searching!

I would be cautious when choosing an apartment on the South part of the city. There is a lot of new development, and there is a lot of improvement, but much of that has been housing areas, and businesses. The bedroom communities mentioned above do not offer much in the way of apartments. The crime risk is still higher in the southern part of the city, though, again, there are some nicer areas going in. I'm sure you can find a reasonable place, but use caution. Get the zipcode and check the crime statistics at city-data.com or homefair.com

The southside is not "crummy" there are a lot of great neighborhoods throughout our city. There are many apartments located on the north west and north central part of the city. There are new lofts and condo's just south of downtown, they are very trendy, but also quite pricey.

The south side is getting better. There are some newer apartments going up. Thats where I would start if I had to live close to the plant. Most people would rather commute their.
