My family all sits together and my uncle reads the Christmas story from the Bible. Then we hold hand and sing Hark the Herald, like in Charlie Brown's Christmas. If someone is not there, we call them and they sing with us through the phone.
Maybe your family could sing a special song on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning, eat a special breakfast as a family, go out as a family on Christmas Eve and look at the lights on the houses, go visit a homeless shelter or orphangage and bring gifts, bake cookies as a family and deliver them to someone you know, or find a family in need in your area and make something for them. The last three are great ways to teach your kids the best part of Christmas is giving, not receiving. You can make anything into a special Christmas tradition.

Buying a new ornament every year. Some companies make series of ornaments, a new one of the same style every year. Find something you like, and go and do. Or just pick one you really like.
Or have a family project every year, make a gingerbread house, or bake cookies, or make a wreath. Do the same thing every year, or so something different.
Do something with the family, as simple as a scheduled trip to see Santa, and you make a day of it.
Or a cookie party, everybody brings their favorite, with the recipe, and everybody takes one of each kind home.
Or do something for a charity, deliver food to the local food bank, pick out a toy for the Toys for tots program. Donate gently used coats and gloves to one of the charity resale stores. Call the local nursing home, and see what they might need, though be warned, sometimes the answer is nothing, we are well taken care of at the holidays.

• My husband started this tradition in his family...when he was just a kid! He designated that everyone should take turns opening their presents by age, starting from OLDEST to youngest. They started with his Nana, then his great aunt, then his mom, then himself. I thought it was great, and it shows kids that it shouldn't always focus solely on them. It was also a treat for him to pass out each present. We still carry on this tradition today.
• Every year, we go to a town in Michigan, called Frankenmuth. It has two large restaurants that serve world-famous chicken dinners, lots of little shops up and down the street, and Bronner's (www.bronners.com), the world's largest Christmas store. It's not truly the Christmas season until we hit Frankenmuth!
• My mom and I always had a tradition of adding a new bird to our Christmas tree. I love the birds, because they look so realistic.

Our family does not have the traditional Christmas Dinner. instead, we have a champagne brunch after we open gifts (sparkling cider for the kids). We also get on the roof on Christmas eve, provided there is no snow, and put out reindeer food--oats with glitter mixed in. Then we go to church.

Well here are some of my family's traditions...
-We do not put the baby Jesus in the nativity, until midnight on Christmas Eve, and then we sing Christmas carols/read the story of Jesus' birth.
-We hide a pickle ornament in the tree and whoever finds it first, gets to hand out the presents on Christmas morning.
-My mom makes Pork Tamales for Christmas EVERY year... we bake breads (cran-orange, banana nut, etc..) or Christmas cookies to give to others.
-We send out Christmas cards w/ a new family photo every year.
-Secret Santa: We draw names to give a special ornament to someone in the family each year.
-We watch: Christmas Vacation, Christmas Story, Charlie Brown's Christmas, etc...
AND
This year we are hoping to get a "leg lamp" to put out for Christmas every years, and we plan on reading The Night Before Christmas to our son every year.

We do a "tasting party" every year on Christmas Eve. We invite friends and family over and everyone is to make their "specialty" candy or bread or whatever. Then we all get together and "Taste" it all. We then turn off the lights, turn on the tree and drink hot cocoa and sing Christmas carols.
(((hugs)))

For Christians a good Christmas tradition is to stop participating. Where in the Bible does it say to celebrate Jesus birthday?

Go to a homeless shelter and help serve dinner it will give you a feeling of satisfaction that you won't get from some kind of over priced present.
