I had a baby 7 weeks ago too, and am also starting my lovely time of the month that had been gone for so long. It hurt for me to use tampons also, and having sex was worse than losing my virginity!
I took a warm bath, it helped a lot. other than that, try using smaller tampons, instead of like super absorbancy. Or, just stick to using a pad until your next cycle. Having a baby REALLY takes a toll on your body, and it does take some time to get back to normal. If the pain doesnt go away soon after inserting the tampon, I would call the doctor to make sure you healed properly.

I used a pad for the first two or three periods after my daughter was born for that same reason.
I only had one stitch, and the doc told me I was all healed by 6 weeks after the birth...I am a firm believer that something which gets that stretched and stressed out cannot possibly be 100% that soon afterwards.
Also - my daughter is 14 months old and I still to this day have a hard time with tampons. I can only use one brand and even they sometimes give me TSS. You could be getting a little Toxic Shock Syndrome from the tampons. I get headaches, stomach cramps and weird cramps...feel terrible. Then I have to use the (nasty) pads again :(

I think it's normal. You might still be a little irritated from the delivery and sensitive. If the period doesn't seem to be a normal one, go to the doctor, but otherwise just use pads for a few cycles. If you have any doubts, see your doctor.

DONT use tampons yet. Its too soon. You're body will still be detoxing after giving birth and the risk of TSS is much higher right now.
Wait a few more cycles.
As it is, its normal for it to hurt, your uterus is sensitive, as is your cervix, and putting a tampon in aggravates both and causes contractions- as your uterus is still shrinking.

Any bleeding within the first 8 weeks is still considered post partum bleeding. It's extraordinarily unlikely that you had a real period, it's far more likely this is still after birth pains and post-partum tissue loss--particularly if you are nursing.

I didnt' have that and I had a c-section too. Maybe it was just bad timing. After baby is born you do get cramps as your uterus shrinks again.

It's because your progesterone levels are not yet back to normal. Totally normal, according to my OB, when I reported a similar issue.

Yes, it is normal to be sore this soon after having a baby. You might want to use a pad this time.
