I'd say Jesus

If your teacher won't allow that, for US history it's George Washington no question, for France it's Napoleon or Louis XIV, for Italy St. Benedict or Julius Caesar, for Germany try Charlemagne, Barbarossa, Frederick the Great or even Otto von Bismark. In short I don't know, there are too many great people in history to pick from.

So many choices. I certainly wouldn't choose any religious leader. Too much death and misery over the centuries can be laid at their feet.

I would like to nominate Winston Churchill. Without his leadership the Evil of Nazism would likely have enslaved the world.

Another good choice would be Robert Thom. If being responsibe for saving more lives than any man in history counts as greatness, he's your man. More than anyone he (and later James Simpson )is responsible for municipal water treatment plants. Many thousand times more lives have been saved by this simple process, than by every doctor who has ever lived.

I don't think there is one single greatest person ever. Every single person has made a contribution to the world as it is today. If there had to be a greatest person, it'd have to be the very first person ever. They had to have had amazing courgage to distinguish themselves from the rest of the world.
