Hi Amanda,
I personally prefer ceramic tile. They have this relatively new radiant heat coil system that you can put under ceramic tile to make the floor warm and comfortable. We have put this in several bathrooms, including my own, and everyone loves it. Also, the ceramic tile is very easy to keep clean and sanitary. Here is a website for the heating coils:

Although you may not want to go to this expense for a half bath it's great for master baths and would be nice for smaller baths if its affordable.
Good luck

Bed and Bath shops tend to have a very good selection of bath mats and area rugs. Also, just a couple of weeks ago, I bought a very nice fatigue mat. It's easy to keep clean, and the biggest thing you have to watch is that the bottom doesn't get- or stay- wet.
Good luck!

alot needs to be answered prior to your decision, such as; what type of sub-floor do you have (what is underneath, plywood, concrete, etc)? What do you want to spend? Do you think you'll ever want to replace it? All these questions need to be considered before making the decision as to what to use. Also, consider who will be using this bathroom, as you may need to go with something textured to prevent slippage.
I prefer using a through-body textured multi-colored porcelain tile over DITRA and laid with a multi-flex mortar, with a coordinating grout color for finish.

it really depends on your financial situation..........
I would say about half of all bathrooms have ceramic or porcelin tile which can be expensive......
the other half have sheet vinyl flooring which can look just as nice and hold up real well..............
very few people have carpet or wood flooring or VCT tile......
