I want it to have a nice, neat appearance. (I know, it's just wood, but I'm picky)

Start with the largest logs first on the bottom, then stack the next size on top of them. Put them so that the sawn bit in facing you (you have a choice of ends - which ever is that prettiest) and then stack the smaller stuff on top. If you do it this way you will always have a range of wood available for your fire and wont have to keep searching through the stack if you want different bits.

Is the wood dried sufficiently? If not it should be stacked like the number key. Even if dry, this is a good way to stack for good air circulation to keep dry and prevent insects and rotting. If dry and will soon be used, just lay longest and largest on bottom and stack however pleases you.

For convienience, I like to stack in 3 sections from end to end. Large logs on one end, next smaller beside it and smallest next to that. This allows you easy access to each size of log. Build a rack that will keep the bottom row off the ground. Cover the wood but make the cover easily lifted for access. make sure there is room for air to circulate between the logs.
