You're right. They are arrogant and probably don't feel a need to give a better explanation or maybe they don't have a real answer. One thing is that they do not respect most Americans. Really, would government be so closed if they did? In MA, when Romney was acting like he was governor (he was hardly around, did nothing but help his friends), the government was closed. Now that we have Deval Patrick as governor, he has made government much more transparent and stayed close to the people. He is very intelligent, caring, and thoughtful. I hope he runs for President one day because he's excellent. I couldn't be happier that he's governor. He's made some mistakes but he's human. I believe that he is trying to do what's right for us average people.
I did graduate from college, work full-time, and am working on a Masters degree part-time. I have a family. I have morals and values. I don't have any children. I have pets though. I take care of them 100%. I am a liberal democrat. I used to vote Republican but then I got some life experience and realized how dumb that was. I work in business. My degree is in Business and my masters will be in business. I understand how business works. I did well in political science.

Why do companies run the same ads over and over adnaseum? It is because there is a belief that if something is said enough times people tend to believe it. The same thing applies here. The Nazis were great purveyors of the art of the repeated lie.
This and similar lines in Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf about what he claimed to be a strategem of Jewish lies using "the principle— which is quite true in itself — that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily," are often misquoted or paraphrased as: "The bigger the lie, the more it will be believed."
And from Josef Goebbels, Nazi Propaganda Minister, "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."
It worked in the 1930s and unfortunately it still works today.

They position themselves with the best "talking points", sound great on the surface, but if you look in to the issue deeper you usually find it is more about deception.
Most people don't spend the time to look at things objectively, its tough when we are usually under the gun!! Still, stop eating the candy their dishing out, its tainting the pool.

Because if they say anything longer than that, the mainstream media will chop up their words and distort it into something else. The MSM has forced all politicians to talk in very simple phrases.

Well, how else can one say that defeat is not acceptable? To me, defeat is not acceptable. Do you think defeat is acceptable? If not, why do you find that statement inappropriate? How can you say it is "obvious" when there are obviously people to whom defeat is not only acceptable but desirable?

because the more you investigate the issue, the more complex it gets, and the more likely people are to make their own conclusions about the evidence, instead of just believing what they're told

Because it works. People latch onto those phrases because they're quick and easy.
It's exceedingly good marketing.
Sad, isn't it?
