My husband and I just moved from Missouri to Kentucky. He is a full time student at UK. I'm working full time. My mom told me that after living in Missouri for a year, you have to change your driver's license to Missouri unless you are a full time student. Does the same work in Kentucky? Even if my husband is a student, but I'm not? Serious answers only please!

Every State has it own laws. To be certain you would need to consult someone in KY. As a general rule, students and military personnel are not required to switch their drivers license. However you are neither. Your spouse is a student. Also, should you take a job the exemption goes away. If you put your children into public school the exemption goes away. Not being a US citizen could impact this. You should consult the KY motor vehicle dept or read through the KY website looking for this information.

Some states give you a maximum time to get your license changed over such as Georgia gives you 20 days to switch it over. Your mother is quite right. I lived in Kentucky for about 10 months and didn't change mine over but that doesn't mean they don't have a law like that. Check with your local police, they can tell you what you need to know.

Yes you should. States have different requirements... in some states (like Virginia, where I live) you only have a month to officially change your drivers license when you move there. But it is a good thing to do ASAP when you officially move.

You would really have to check with their secretary of state. You may find info on below link, or at least how to contact them:

Why don't you contact the Department of Motor Vehicles for a reliable answer...?
