In Vietnam, far more "insurgents" were active in fighting Americans, then later the South Vietnamese, then is witnessed today in Iraq.

Also, in Japan, at the end of WWII it is accepted by historians and Japanese leaders of the day, that every Japanese man, woman, and child, would have fought an American invasion to the last Japanese person left standing (Shinto was the religion which looked upon Japan as the center of the universe and the emporer as a man of God's presence on earth).

First of all, "insurgent" is a PC term. I thought the rightwingers hated that?

Second of all - WE DON'T BELONG IN THEIR COUNTRY.

Why? Why do Americans think they run the world?

Just wait and see how much longer in terms of our sacrifices of life and treasure make on a major middle eastern country. Do you think they will love us more, follow us closer, change the way they do business or start caring more about their children than they do now?
What you are comparing is far fetched and unimportant details of completely different periods in different wars at different places and circumstances.
To say the least, you are on thin ice rationally and completely off base in terms of being relevant to the events of the War at the present. The Iraq War is a disaster because it was started on lies and deception. It is and remains illegal internationally.
This war was characterized by Bush, Cheney and the NeoCon's as an easy conquest and certain victory with great results on the cheap. But those who predicted the consequences of the War, and people on Iraq's reactions to an American Invasion, were wrong from beginning to end, and the war is not ending as predicted and promised.
The only light at the end of the tunnel is an IUD going off under the Generals Humvee!
The single question left is, "will the right successfully trick the political middle class into blaming the lost Bush War on the Democrats when they bring the defeat in Iraq to a conclusion.
One thing for certain, the Right Wing of the American Political System will never speak the truth about what, why and how America got into this disastrous Iraq War.

Simple answer is no. Many of the people in this forum and in Hollywood first have to paint the picture of what would be best to forward our agenda. Then, what can we do to blame the other party for current events. How can we spin this to make anyone associated with President Bush look bad. How can we curb the good news that our soldiers are proud of what is accomplished with the citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan. Last but not least is "why not just make up a bunch of garbage that people might listen to". Conspiracies are created in that way.

While it may not have been handled as well as I would have liked, it is Turning out to be a major success. I only wish Democrats would stop politicizing it and help or at least stop hurting the cause. America is the most major force for good on this entire planet. We are in the business of tyrant busting and offering the gift of self-determination to the people of the world.

We have done so successfully in many, many countries of the world. Our goal is to establish democratic governments everywhere. Why? We have never been to war against a democratic government ever in our entire history. Democratic capitalist countries do not start wars or act belligerently against their neighbors.

Tyrannies do.

If you want peace as you claim you do, then the gift of liberty must be delivered throughout the world. Once accomplished, the specter of war will be replaced with peaceful, healthy competition.

I can't answer from experience, but I can make a comparison to the USA.

If there were a group of terrorists in the USA that was attacking our own people, the citizens of America would band together to stop them, not to mention our government would take care of them before we would. From that standpoint, it aggravates me that the citizens of Iraq are not coming together to stop the civil war that is threatening. I understand that they have a different culture, but when you and yours is threatened, you react and fight back. I hear of little of this happening, and that is why I think they are supportive of the extremists.

Yes and no to your questions. It is a total disaster. The U.S. has gained nothing and has lost a lot. Bush and Cheney are out of touch, incompetent, and dangerous. They should be impeached because what they have done is illegal.
I'm praying very hard that we do not go to Iran. The President has no authority or power or control. It really doesn't matter what he says. His job is to deflect attention from what the Iranians are really doing. We need to pay attention but no action is required. That's my opinion based on the information I've read and people that I've talked to.

Did you know that the democrats are working hard for middle class tax cuts but the Republicans are fighting it very hard?

No it is not a disaster.
Compared to many conflicts in history this has been extremely sucessful and low cost.
Most Muslims don't support the terrorists, see them as violent extremists.

All the "WHY's" of Iraq haven't been made public but we are looking at a peice of GRAND STRATEGY.
Fight the small fight to prevent a much greater danger down the road.

Imagine Russia,France and Brittain standing up to Hitler in Poland.
Would the war in Europe have happened ?

Iraq is going to prove to be our biggest disaster. It may have fewer insurgents than Vietnam, but they will always be there, as they have been for hundreds of years. They are religious insurgents and they aren't only against us, they are against anyone who is not of their sect. They are not only in Iraq they are everywhere, so we will face them, now that we've really pissed them off, everywhere we go.

I don't really know what will ever calm those waters.

It's pretty disasterous for 600,000 dead Iraqis, and 3-4 million refugees.

Yes.

Not to mention that, 5 years after our involvement and the country still doesn't have electricity and potable water...much less security.
