using decimal digits instead of bits, in 2007, the 2 is the most significant digit and the 7 is the least. most significant has greatest place value, least has lowest.

It can best be answered by an example:
A binary number can be written as :
11111000
The first bit on the extreme right is LSB. Least significant because of its position in the number. Its index is zero and its value is 0 x 2^0 = 0
In this number MSB is the digit on the extreme left It is the most significant digit because of its position. Its index is 7.and its value is 1 x 2^7 = 128.
Another example is 000000011111111. LSB = 1 and MSB = 0
