Reported on Yahoo sports that the Red Sox is A-Rod's number one choice. Your thoughts?

No, A-Rod isn't Boston's first choice. That's purely media sensationalism and there isn't an ounce of truth to it. Boston's first choice for 3B is Mike Lowell.

My take is this: A-Rod wants out of New York. He gave them a ridiculous demand for an extension for one reason only, he knew there wasn't a GM in the league who wouldn't disregard it immediately. The reason A-Rod wants out of New York is because he's tired of living in the goldfish bowl that New York's media creates around celebrities. Given that, there's absolutely no chance in hell that he'd be stupid enough to come to Boston where, despite whatever success that little football team in Foxborough enjoys, the Red Sox are still the #1 media draw and the goldfish bowl is just as bad.

I see A-Rod landing in one of 3 places: LA (with the Angels), Chicago (with either the Cubs or White Sox), or Florida (with the Marlins).

The $300 Million A-Rod wants are far too high reltive to whatever Mike Lowell will ask for. It all comes down to asking how valuable are the 20 extra home runs A Rod brings to the Red Sox.

Honestly, I would rather the RedcSox maintain some salary flexibility. They are already overpaying JD Drew. I believe the Florida Marlins have two more attractive players they are shopping right now.

I agree that it is probably a media ploy. Probably to create a bidding war. I do not see him going to the White Sox. Maybe the Angels. Either way, the price is just ridiculous - and a bidding war just makes it even more so. The Payrod Derby. Funny thing - there is the GM's meeting in Florida and about 28 teams in attendance couldn't be in the same zip code as the should we think about signing Payrod discussions. Like my Cleveland Indians - I am sure Mark Shapiro is not even thinking about Payrod because he knows it is a pipe dream and maybe not even one that he would want. Maybe Shapiro thinks it would be kind of cool to park butts in the seats with a Payrod promotion but then he thinks, omg I could afford to clone Casey Blake like 300 million times and still have change in my pocket........

At one time I would have said yes...without a doubt...even this year I thought it would be amazing to have Lowell at third put A-Rod back at short...then the line-up could be A-Rod, Papi, Manny, Lowell...that would not be fun for any pitcher...but I honestly don't think he would be good for this team...they didn't have him in either '04 or '07 and they won the World Series so I don't think they need him...he just seems too selfish and too much of a clubhouse headache that would disrupt the current chemistry they have...I say no.

It would be an electrifying atmosphere with A-Rod in Boston and I don't believe it would take very long for A-Rod to win over the fans. He will be reaching same amazing accomplishments within the next ten years and the fans in Boston would be the benefactors. I believe anyone not wanting A-Rod to come to their team is not looking at the unbelievable benefits that would be coming with him.

Great ! Now the SOX can raise the price on tickets. Free agents SUCKS ,it only cost the fans more money.Charles Finley was right when he said free agents would ruin the game for the average fan.I haven't been to a major league game in person since the strike.I use to have season tickets.I now spend that money on golf equipment and green fees.Better than watching those primadonnas cry about money.

I also have mixed feelings. I don't know that his personality would fit in with this team. Although he has never really played with a team with big personalities like David Ortiz or Manny. He played with Derek Jeter and he was quiet in the dugout and more of the leader on the field.

He is a great ball player, but I'd rather we re-sign Mike Lowell.

I hope A-Rod doesn't become a Red Sox player. They don't need him.

You would have to be straight up crazy to not want AROD.

WTF do people think that we need to get rid of Lowell in order to get AROD. AROD IS A SS people. The only reason Arod played 3rd base is because Jeter was to selfish to let the best SS to ever play the game play there.

By the way can you link to this story?
