at party, text messages between teacher professing love for 13 yr. old boy, text messages between congressman and young male intern, etc. Does this make you wonder if it is only the technology that has brought to light these indiscretions and that these shenanigans have been going on for ages anyway?
I know the football coach at my high school married a classmate as soon as she turned 18. Is the proliferation of cell phones and their cameras just busting the hell out of people whose type has been around for ages?

Behavioral indiscretions are as old as humankind. Throughout history people have made incorrect or immature or just plain dumb choices...that's nothing new.

However, in the past many of these behaviors have gone unnoticed, or noticed only by a few. Today's technology makes privacy nearly nonexistent, and information is shared throughout the world in nothing more than a few minutes.

I don't believe that people are becoming more indiscreet; it's just that more of us are becoming aware of each other's indiscretions.

You mention a very important thing : that people of such low calibre have been around for ages. It would only prove to them of opportunity if any medium was to be further developed or extended for their exploitation.
And yet, this quickly growing technology can not carry all of the burden of proof for those, already of base calibre.
For there are many, the majority perhaps - Who will honour this technology for existing. For expediting purposes in their lives.
As for those who LACK a far more admirable character, nothing will change them, for whatever comes to progress will be also exploited by them.

This stuff has been going on forever.

Our society has very repressive and strict norms about sexual behavior that are not reflected in many societies/cultures throughout history. I'm not trying to say that all of your examples should be considered appropriate, but that we do tend to be more repressive than we should be.
