They are feigning surprise for the public's benefit.

What they are actually doing is taking notes. What is happening in Pakistan is like a "dry run" for them.

That happens to be 1 of the things Washington seems to be good at. Pretending to be surprised at issues like this just in hopes to make the rest of the people who make up the U.S. look stupid. And the sad part is there are plenty who actually fall for this type of facade.

Oh, they're not surprised. Why do you think they've been pushing him to accept Bhutto? They're just in a tough situation there. Pakistan is a deeply divided, terribly unstable country. It would take so little to tip it into chaos, or for the Taliban to take power. Sure, the US would rather deal with a stable, Democratic leader, but how do you get there? Sometimes you have to deal with the devils who are in power while you try to slowly change things for the better. There are plenty worse rulers than Musharraf around the world, believe me.

That is what they do best, pretend. I think this issue in Pakistan has far reaching consequences. The few have been waiting for reasons to carry out their authoritarian wishes, and America has become allot more like Pakistan in the last few years.

I feel another shoe dropping right here in America.

I have to agree with blueridge. The Bush administration wants to see if he can get away with this. It appears msm thinks Condo Rice saying she's "disappointed" is also a "strong rebuke". An answer above actually thinks a dictator is ok under the "fighting terrorism" umbrella. Unbelievable.

You teach the kids to behave by cutting off their allowance. If there's no punishment, the behavior continues.

Nobody is pretending anything. They simply disapprove of certain things he is doing.

Moon - He has always had access to those nukes. They didn't just mysteriously show up this week.

He took power in a military coup. No one thinks he was ever anything but a dictator. Given the situation, I think he is doing the right thing. He is trying to keep the muslim crazies from taking over the country. That is a good thing.
