The South had few men, little industry, no navy, less iron ore and coal, fewere railroads to move men and material.

The South thought they were better fighters and had more firearm experiance than the city people in the north.

The blockade of the southern ports hurt them, then the capture of the whole Mississippi River, then the drain of manpower thru attrition.

The south lost not due to a lack of resorcues but due to a minor mistake of sending the wrong materials in a train to lees army andthey had scavange for food due to the fact that it was pretty scarce so they ate premature cornand got sick so the jump they had on shermans army to sneak attack the union forces was failed The north had a larger army and more troops the north also had more they had a larger navybetter wepons higher grade powder and the south had the sea at their backs which is always an advantage which prevents a sneak attack and was able to have a military mastermind at thead general and presedent in lee and davis The south thought they could of won because they had a fair chance just like the union and that they had started off with more powder mills then the union and smaller urbonized more opena reas whih are harder to assult mae it possible for them to set up eaier defenses the military had to be the battle at gettysburg or at little big horn political turning points were when bills were signed allowing slaves to become freed if they joined the militia

The South lost the war for several reasons. No standing army, no standing navy, having to form a government as they went, no currency that was recognized worldwide, less industry, much smaller population, and not as many railroads, less salt,( for preserving food and tanning leather), plus Egypt started growing cotton which took the pressure off of England to support the South in order to get cotton for their mills.

Northern Advantage- almost everything.

Why did the South think they could win? Who says they thought that. Remember, we were attacked by the North.
When your country is being attacked, what can you do other than fight back. All the South wanted to do was to be left alone.

Turning Point- We lost our chance, at least for the time being, of having our freedom one July at Gettysburg. Still, as President Davis said, any conflict that is "settled by violence:" is not settled at all, just postponed for another day.
I also realize that we are all "one big happy family" again, but please believe me when I say, some of us are a lot happier than others.

Who says the South lost? We are just busy regrouping for an eleventh hour attack.
