ummmm....... my cd driver does/nt work each time i try to put a cd rom in it makes this loud scrathing noise what could that be???? is it fixiable?

Try several different CDs. Make sure they can be read in another drive. Try non-recordable CDs. If the same CDs work in another drive but not this one - you need to replace it. Otherwise, you may simply have bad CDs.

Sounds like the kids have been at it. Get a new one from Newegg.com. CD drives are something like $15, and a good DVD burner should be around $25.

it may need cleaning - dust particles are trapping the laser.
buy any disc cleaner and follow the instructions.
if that doesn't work, try re-installing the drive.

Hi. They are so cheap and easy to replace I suggest you replace it. Then take to old one apart to see what was grinding.
