My 1st inf. was 10/12, before finishing cipro I was hurting bad and seeing blood (no sex yet) and was changed to Levaquin finished it last week, had UA Friday, showed small inf. they are culturing it. I have hurt all weekend, middle lower back, and small amount of blood. B/P low, feel awful. Can this be from my hysterectomy since UTI was weeks after my hyst.? It was 3t bacteria and yuk. My gyn's nurse told me no. I am wondering about a uterine prolapse? or something like that they call it? My gyn questioned me on my 4 week surgery follow up about my urinary tract, I have had in the past years chronic UTI's, I probably had it then but didn't have it checked. Who do I go to
back to my GYN or to my Urologist? My family MD is not doing anything except antibiotics.

Thanks.

3 UTI's in a year is considered normal. Anything beyond that, most insurances qualify you for a surgical procedure that slightly enlarges the urethra, making it easier to completely empty the bladder, eliminating the bacteria more efficiently.

After they do the culture, they will be able to tell which anti-biotic is most effective. If after the finishing the anti-biotic prescribed based on the culture you still have an infection, go to a urologist. If your MD does not tell you about the surgical option, ask him/her about it, and possibly obtain a second opinion.

After finishing your round of antibiotics, begin taking an acidopholous pill every day. They boost your body's "good bacteria", along your body to more effectively fight infection from "bad bacteria".

Edit - if you are having pain in your back, and red blood cells in your urine, it is possible the infection has moved to your kidneys. Call and see if they can expedite the delivery of lab results. I hope you feel better, what a horrible thing to go through right after a hysterectomy. Good luck!

see a urologist, actually I wouldn't be surprised if the uti were caused during your hysterectomy because they always put in a urinary cathetar during surgery and when you do that, an infection is almost always guaranteed, there is no way to do that as a sterile procedure so bacteria are always introduced into the bladder. Usually they also give you antibiotics with surgery and that will generally take care of any infection, but not always. that however is a moot point, there is no way to prove it...but do see a urologist, he will need to see the latest culture results.

Many times after a hysterectomy the bladder has problems. I would start with the OB who did the surgery. DONT talk to the nurse, ask for a call back from the doctor. If you get nowhere then, see the urologist. Your bladder may be prolapsing, and may need to be fixed.

If you maintain getting the equal antibiotics your frame will have developed a tolerance to them because of this they wont to the equal activity in your frame that they as soon as did. I've had two urinary tract infections and the foundations to eliminating them first of all are one million) Finish your complete direction WITH WATER. two) Take your medication even as day-to-day. three) Sort out your nutrition four) Until the uti is long gone dont consume or drink citrus end result akin to cranberries. five) Increase your water consumption (this makes a big change) 6) Give your frame a relaxation. If it hurts, strolling round wont make it larger. 7) Pee while you have got to. Holding in urine for many years raises the probabilities of UTI's. Good good fortune! I used to be for your role round final week!
