Wired is faster and higher quality, but wireless is more convenient.
The modem generally does not provide wireless connectivity. Most modems (cable or ADSL modem) provide a single Ethernet connection. To get a wireless setup, you need to connect a wireless router to the modem. The router should provide both wired and wireless connections.

wired is more secure.
for the net, speed is not much different but for transferring files or playing games over LAN, 1GB cards and crossover cable is far superior.
I use a ZOOM adsl which is both wired and wireless, purchased from PC world.
I bought an asus wireless card for the PC in my bedroom but would not recommend the asus, tricky as hell to get working properly.
you may need an areal with some level of gain depending on how far the wireless PC is from the router.

Use both. Wire up a couple of locations you use most of the time and set up wireless for when you want to move around or your buddy brings his/her computer over. There are wireless routers that also have wired ports to connect to. Switch off the wireless when you don't need it or aren't using it.

Unless your DSL runs at >11Mb/second, it doesn't matter...
wifi is a slower network than wired BUT they are both faster than your DSL line, so you won't see much change either way.
Wired is a lot more secure (no-one can hack your wired network from a car parked on your street).
Wired is also less susceptible to interference from people and things moving around.
HTH!

Wired is a lot faster, especially if you're running Gigabit and Cat6. Also, it's switched for a multiuser environment, and it's insulated, so it doesn't matter what your neighbor is using. Whatever your neighbor is using, it won't interfere with your signal.
Wireless doesn't require punching any holes in the wall or running wire.

Wired is faster (but not much) and more secure.
Wireless is more convenient. There's always a trade off for convenience.
