haha yes, they could, but I wouldn't exactly put my money on it. There will more than likely only be one team coming to the playoffs from the West, and that will be the division winner. I know that the Browns won their division in the mid 80's with an 8-8 record, and that was the closest a division winner has come to having a losing record. If you look at the only credible team in the conference's (Seattle) schedule, you'll see that they have some winnable games left on their schedule, so I think they'll finish 8-8.
Cowboys - I believe the only year teams with losing records have made the postseason was in 1982 when only 9 regular season games were played. The Browns and Lions were both 4-5 and made the playoffs.

Yeah i'd desire to truly see an NFC West winner with an 8-8 checklist tops, even perchance 7-9. it extremely is gonna suck although, on account that there is in all possibility gonna be a 9-7 or maybe 10-6 team that misses the playoffs whilst a 7-9 team makes it.

The 1978 Minnesota Vikings won the division
with an 8-7-1 record.
The 1985 Cleveland Browns won their divison title with
an 8-8 record. They went to the playoffs that year.
The 1985 Denver Broncos had an 11-5 record, didn't win their division, and did NOT go to the playoff that year.
That division title is important. It guarantees at least one home playoff game.

I recall a team or two making the playoffs with a 7-9 record. I can't remember a team winning their division with a loosing record but I suppose its possible. I suspect one team will get hot and beat up on the other teams in the division and win 8 or 9 games...

Yes. The team with the best record in the division, even if it is a losing record, automatically makes the playoffs. A team could win all of its six division games and lose every other game, and as long as any of their division rivals didn't win more than six games, the division title is theirs with a record of 6-10.
