All planets out to Saturn are basically folk names. They are really the names of Roman gods, but how they came to be associated with these planets isn't really clear to me. Uranus was named by Johann Elert Bode. Neptune was named by Urbain Jean Joseph Le Verrier. Pluto was named by Percival Lowell.

This question shows a basic ignorance of the history of astronomy, or, more fundamentally, a misunderstanding of history in general. Except for Uranus and Neptune, which were discovered in historic times and hence have discoverers and namers, all the other planets, plus the Sun, the Moon, and most of the stars have been known to humanity for thousands of years, perhaps hundreds of thousands of years. So it is impossible to say who "discovered" them or "named" them.

Luckily, I'm old enough to have received a good general education in school, and have continued to learn all through my life. It would never occur to me to ask a question like this, the answer is so obvious.

While I cannot tell you who exactly named the planets, I can tell you from where the names came from...The names of the planets are derived from the names of Roman gods.
Hope that helps!

The Romans named the planets that can be seen with the naked eye.
