They are #1 by default. If either LSU, Florida, Auburn, WVU, Oklahoma, and USC were undefeated, they wouldn't be #1.

Wow...."youngstown and akron" smack. Man, you're funny! I mean, that's just hilarious!
Let me walk you through it: (I'll type s-l-o-w-l-y so that you might be able to understand)
Ohio State is 10-0. They're #1 in all of the "human driven" polls. Still, humans can make mistakes and be biased (like the five morons who think LSU is #1 in the AP).
But, and you should put down your crayons and pay attention here, Ohio State is also #1 in the Harris Interactive and aggregate computer rankings. These are the ones that take into account strength of schedule, margin of victory, and won-loss records of opponents.
Number One by every possible measuring system. Unanimity (that mean's total agreement, sport).
See, the computers don't walk into the system with a bias for any conference or team. They simply digest the facts, and spit out the conclusion. And the conclusion is that, until or unless somebody beats them, the Buckeyes are Number One.
Now I know you're going to be upset after Mommy reads this to you, so I want you to be a brave little man, okay? Put on your LSU jammies, little soldier. Walk into that preschool with pride, and when the big kids try and take your lunch money today, at least have the courage to yell "Geaux Tigers!" before you hand it over.

Do we have to go over this a million times? The BCS is using a system that uses Harris Interactive, Coaches' Poll and the Computer Average to place a number 1 ranking.
Ohio State is the highest rated team based on coaches, Harris and computer complied rankings.
I am very pleased that the BCS does not use your logic in ranking teams.
Also if you had took the time to review other teams schedules you would find the following:
#2 LSU plays Louisiana Tech, Middle Tenn State and Tulane
#3 Oregon plays Houston and Fresno State
#4 Kansas plays Central Michigan, SE Louisiana State, Toledo, Florida International and Baylor
#5 Oklahoma plays North Texas, Utah State, Tulsa and Baylor
Also here is the Sagrin rankings on strength of schedule:
#1 Ohio State 68.63 ( 63)
#2 LSU 75.49 (12)
#3 Oregon 75.42 (13)
#4 Kansas 62.69 (106)
#5 Oklahoma 67.71 ( 72)
As you can see of the Top 5 Ranked teams, Ohio State has the 3rd hardest schedule...
See this question you posted really is your opinion with no real facts...
GO BUCKS!

Like it or not, it is called a respect for the program. Tressel has done a very good job keeping his team consistent. Whether or not they stay #1 will be decided over the next 2 weeks.
I would love to see them play a 4 straight weeks against 4 good SEC teams. Then I might have a lot more respect for them.
update:
ok there hugh9269..
Lets not try to be sneaky here...ok, yes...out of the top 5 teams they have the 3rd hardest...but, if you look at the top 10 teams, they drop to the 8th hardest...so on, so forth. Or you can just spit it out plainly....according to the source you quote, they have an overall SOS ranking of 63rd hardest in the nation.

College teams make their own schedule. They can follow one of two strategies.
1) Schedule tough teams. This helps in the ranking and gets your team ready for upcoming tough opponents.
or you can do like Ohio State
2) Schedule weak teams. Play in a weak conference. Hope everyone else loses, then when you are the only unbeaten team left, you'll be #1 by default. You'll get slaughtered in the Championship Game by a team that deserves to be there, but so what, you made it there, and if you're lucky the other team gets food poison from their pre-game meal.

This season proves that D-I FBS needs playoffs. I mean there has been so many upsets that the BCS system is completely screwed up. The playoffs should be just like the one in D-I FCS and that would be16 teams making into the playoffs. Eight is just to small a number and 16 would be more enjoyable.

Every top team in the country has a few cake games on their schedule. A lot of the rankings have to do with past success. The Buckeyes are a traditional power house so they get credit for that also.

why does this question keep coming up? they havent lost. so far this season they are perfect. the other teams should schedule cupcakes if they want to go undefeated. otherwise, suck it up. and its not the buckeyes fault. they have to play a conference schedule. usually the big 10 is competitive. but not this year.

Kansas should be #1. They have played a tougher schedule. Watch Ohio State get more credit if they beat Michigan than Kansas will get if they beat Mizzou, even though Mizzou would crush Michigan.
