I understand your getting into the Christmas mood! The stores are all decorated and some places have already started playing Christmas music.

First I have to say that it really irks me when people put up their Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving. I mean, can we at least recognize and celebrate Thanksgiving, instead of blowing it off for Christmas, ya know? But I fully support decorating Thanksgiving weekend.

Having said that, I also tell my husband he can put up our outdoor Christmas lights anytime in November whenever the weather is agreeable (rather than doing it in the freezing/snowy December weather), as long as he doesn't turn them on until after Thanksgiving.

Other things you could do that wouldn't be "cheating":
• Start Christmas shopping now, if you haven't yet. It feels great to get a jump on the rush, esp. before the malls and stores are so packed.
• If you bake Christmas cookies, you could start that now, and freeze them.
• Sort through all your Christmas decorations, and see if any got broke since last year, or you just would like to get rid of some to replace with new ones. Donate the old stuff if it's still in good condition.
• Buy your Christmas cards now and start addressing them. No one will know you did it a month early! And then you'll have them ready to go. You can also get your stamps. I just checked (www.usps.gov), and the Post office has Christmas stamps available now.

I do the inside stuff first, that way the neighbors can't see what I am doing! LOL. The stuff you can see from the outside, or is outside, gets put up on a nice day, but not lit until after Thanksgiving.
The wreath for the door goes up the day after Thanksgiving. Traditional in this community to use the 4 day Thanksgiving weekend, if your job gives you one, to do the outside decorations.
A couple years ago, I had surgery before Halloween, and was feeling better, but bored to death, and still not able to lift more than 5 pounds. I carried the Xmas and the ornaments small bit by bit up the stairs, and when the trick or treaters came around, I had the tree and the lights up, and was hanging ornaments. My friends have never let me hear the end of that one, Rivers has Christmas on Halloween!.

If you feel compelled to put your decorations up, then by all means do so! I think any time in November is okay to start "decking the halls". Perhaps you just need the warm fuzzies that go along with seeing the decorations. I think Christmas decor is the most magical of all decorations, hands down. Maybe you just need that Christmas magic now...and that's okay! Honestly, I was considering the same thing...I don't want to wait until the day after Thanksgiving like I usuallly do..I want it decorated FOR Thanksgiving! hehe! Why not?

If you want to put up the tree & decorate then go ahead. There's no law against it. After all it's already November, at least you waited until after Halloween. Last year my sister had her tree up before Thanksgiving. When we went there for Thanksgiving dinner it got the whole family in the holiday spirit. When I got home I put my tree up too.

Tradition in my family is to put the decorations up on the 18th of December and take them down on January 1st--two weeks. More than enough time to enjoy them, but not get too tired of them. We always have a real tree so the danger of fire is always present and the longer a tree is up the dryer it gets and the more chance of fire. That was always my Mama's reasoning and I've just followed through with it. But I think most people put their decorations and tree up nowadays the day after Thanksgiving. Personally, I think it really awful to see trees still up in March!!!

A lot of people do it the week of Thanksgiving or the day after. You will only have to tough it out for 2 more weeks! I am dying to put my stuff up this year!
