Nice move, but LA still needs a big bat, another arm, & some bench help.

First of all this question is getting beaten to death pretty much like having anything to do with A-Rod. Secondly, for the Nay-Sayers, Torre proved his worth in New York taking the Yanks to the playoffs every year that he managed them. Finally, if McCourt wants to win badly enough, he will do everything he can to aid in Torre's success in LA as did Steinbrenner in NY.
Do I think he will get the Dodgers into the playoffs? Yes, quite possibly to the NLCS, but I think for this year it's a testing the waters situation. Fortunately for Torre the NL West is perennially the worst division in baseball.
As far as a World Series goes, the road there always goes through either Atlanta, NY Mets, and sometimes St. Louis, so he'll have his hands full on that one.

The Dodgers have a good core group of young players and Torre is a good manager. It would seem to me that all pointers are up in the future of the Dodgers.

Torre, though a fine manager, is now overpaid. He had the best players in MLB, the highest payroll, and a comitted owner who does anything to win, but they have struggled mightily the past 5+ seasons in NY. A good manager may win you 5 games a year, but his tendency to blow out the bullpen and not develop younger pitchers isn't a recipe for post-season success.
I think Torre might make the Dodgers contend in the NL West, and depending on offseason moves, maybe win it. But don't hold your breath about going deep in the second season.

I think the Dodgers with Torre will make the National League dominant. Especially if what I hear from St. Louis is true . . .
Big money=Big players . . . .

not necessarily. The manager is just one piece of the puzzle in the long run. If Eric Wedge had unlimited resources in Cleveland like Torre had in NY, he would have a fistful of rings, too.

You mean the Yankees West? He's bringing great coaches with him so there should be no problem getting to the playoffs. How far they go depends upon their pitching cause pitching wins championships.
