I was born in the wrong decade. I hate new rock with a fiery passion. I'm 21 and I love the old 60s-80s era rock. But I'm limited as to what songs and bands I hear on the radio. And although I like the Top 40 old songs of the day, what are some good, old, kicking rock tunes that not everyone knows about?

These are all rock from 60s-80s, you PROBABLY won't hear these on your local oldies/classic rock station. I've listed the artist first, then the song, and I've linked videos for a few I found on YouTube:

Head East-Never Been Any Reason
ELO-Bluebird is Dead
Yes-Starship Trooper
The Creation-Making Time
David Bowie-Freaks
Beach Boys-Long Promised Road
13th Floor Elevators-You're Gonna Miss Me
Elvis Costello-Alison
Todd Rundgren and Utopia-Itch in my Brain
Rod Stewart-Handbags and Gladrags (this song, in a different version, was the theme song for the original BRITISH version of the comedy series THE OFFICE...)
Charlie Daniels Band-Caballo Diablo
Thunderclap Newman-Something in the Air (covered by Tom Petty on his GREATEST HITS CD.)

Robin Trower, "In City Dreams"
Roy Buchanon "The Atlantic Years"
Edgar Winter Group "They Only Come Out At Night"
Traffic "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys"
Spencer Davis Group "Live at the Cantina"

These are albums, lotsa good stuff on them that isn't played a lot.

Here's one that is pretty unknown:
Triumvirat: "old loves die hard"
and...
Chase: Ennea (this is kind of rock and roll and jazz mixed)

Here are some of my favorites. Although lots of people know about them, I don't hear them a lot on the radio:
The entire Simon and Garfunkle's "bridge over troubled water" album
The entire Electric Light Orchestra "Face the Music" album
Santana! Abraxas
Moody Blues: Days of Future Past

surely RADAR LOVE by using Golden Earring. there is yet another version...a hair band from the previous due 80's called White Lion recorded an exceedingly solid version of it. The guitar artwork in it is undesirable-***!

I have noticed that my Sirius satellite plays classic rock songs that are not as main stream as normal radio. You can go to their website http://www.sirius.com/ and sign up to listen online to their stations. They have some great classic rock ones. Channels 14 and 15 are my fav.

Listen to some "Foghat" from the seventies. The songs "Slow Ride", "I just want to make love to you", "Fool for the city", Terraplane blues" still kick butt!
After all these years it's still the best concert I've ever seen.

If you haven't already, you should check out Lynyrd Skynyrd, Dave Edmunds, Small Faces, Johnny Cash, The Who, The Fall (for a punkier edge).

There are a whole lot of excellent obscure tunes. You may want to give ear to such performers as: Jethro Tull, Savoy Brown, Quicksilver, Kinks, Humble Pie, just to name a few.
